Summary of Changes from Previous Version

In July 2025, Academic Senate endorsed substantive changes to the Procedure. However, full implementation has been deferred due to the required system redevelopment. In the interim, several key updates are necessary to address operational gaps, provide procedural clarity, and ensure alignment between the Procedure and Outcome Guideline.

The proposed amendments are based on the changes already approved by Senate, consistent with their intent, and adapted to support current operational needs and establishment of investigative practices. This is particularly important given expanded detection capabilities and increasing case complexity. Furthermore, at present, the Outcome Guideline contains future-oriented terminology and penalty frameworks that are not aligned with the Procedure. These updates will bring both documents into alignment and support consistent application across faculties.

• The current Procedure does not adequately support complex case types (e.g. anonymous reports, contract cheating) in line with current practices. Given the Office of Academic Integrity’s expanding investigative function, clearer mechanisms are needed to address emerging misconduct types, such as contract cheating.
• Provisions are required to ensure students are informed of proactive detection tools (e.g. Turnitin Authorship), which are currently being piloted.
• The proposed amendments are procedural in nature and do not require system redevelopment. They are intended as a bridging measure until full implementation in Autumn Session 2026.
